Leicester City have officially claimed this season’s Premier League title. Arsenal fans will be very disappointed, but St. Totteringham’s Day is still in the cards.

Leicester City have done something truly outstanding. To propel themselves from the doldrums of relegation candidacy to the summit of the Enlgish top flight is a remarkable feat indeed. Arsenal have clearly missed a massive chance to break their drought of major silverware this season and the fans’ disappointment is evident. However all is not yet lost. While ultimate glory is of course out of the Gunners’ reach, Arsenal can still do their damnedest to maintain a timeless tradition.

St. Totteringham’s day is of course the day that Arsenal ultimately finish above rivals Tottenham in the league standing. Totteringham’s is perhaps my third favorite holiday after the Fourth Of July and Thanksgiving. Seeing that hollowed day slip from our grasp would be far to painful to endure. However with two games left to play for both north London clubs, Arsenal only sit behind Spurs by three points.

Chelsea did the entire league a favor by barring Tottenham’s path to the title with a tough fought draw at Stamford Bridge. It’s horrible to imagine a situation in which we could actually root so eagerly for the Blues, but in a comparison of garbage, Chelsea comes out smelling far more aromatic.

Spurs have two rather tricky fixtures to close out their surprisingly impressive season. They will welcome Southampton to White Hart Lane this Sunday, and we all know just how stubborn the Saints can be especially on the road. As we saw against Chelsea, Tottenham are reaching their breaking point. The strain of chasing the Premier League title has frayed the composure of this young team. After racking up a league record nine yellow cards in one game and blowing a two goal lead, it looks like Spurs are primed for their seasonal collapse.

A defensively stout Southampton squad can cause Tottenham some real issues. Furthermore, their final game of the season is against scrappy Newcastle who are clawing for every single point they can muster at the moment. The Magpies have put together a rather impressive run of form lately, defeating Crystal Palace and Swansea while drawing with Liverpool and Manchester City in their last four games. Rafa Benitez has Newcastle fighting for their lives and I believe they can give Tottenham a bonafide scrap. I predict two draws for Spurs in their next two games netting them two points. If I am correct Tottenham will end the season with 72 points.

Of course in order to finish above Spurs, Arsenal will have to ensure their success by winning both of their remaining games. The final fixture of the season is a match against already relegated Aston Villa. Much like last season’s FA Cup demolition, Arsenal should have no trouble putting Villa to the sword on the final day of the season. If Arsenal find a way to botch that three points then the Gunners have far more issues than even I thought.

So with that victory hopefully locked up, Arsenal must set their eyes on defeating Manchester City at the Etihad Arena. Arsenal have enjoyed a fine run of form against the Citizens in recent encounters. We defeated Manchester City at the Emirates this season and last year Arsenal claimed a famous win at the very stadium they will venture to on Sunday. Furthermore Manchester City play today in the Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid, so there is a good chance that the Mancunians may not be at full tilt when the two teams meet on May 8th.

Is this a bit ridiculous? Of course it is. There’s no reason that Arsenal’s season should be reduced to finishing above their rivals Tottenham. But with nothing else to play for, we have to find joy somewhere right? There isn’t much excitement in Arsenal right now. With silly protests taking place and more divisiveness than ever, the club needs a unifying purpose. Crushing Tottenham’s hopes and dreams will have to do.

So here’s my bold prediction, Arsenal will defeat both Manchester City and Aston Villa, while Tottenham will draw against Southampton and Newcastle. Arsenal will claim second place with 73 points with Spurs falling to third with 72.
