Arsenal have no reason not to sell Theo Walcott this summer. If West Ham are offering anything, it is in their absolute best interest to leap at the offer.

Arsenal have made several painful discoveries this year. Many of them have to do with their own inadequacies. For one, Olivier Giroud is most definitely not enough striking power for Arsenal to win. You may say that you knew this a long time ago, but this year really set it in stone.

The second is that Theo Walcott really has no value anymore. For as frustrated as we all are at Walcott, this is a rather disappointing and saddening fact to figure out. Walcott stuck with Arsenal through some bad times. He’s been here for a decade and you can’t deny his love for the club.

But where we stand now is completely different. Walcott has nothing to offer the club. Many out there are claiming that Arsenal should ‘jump at the opportunity’ to sell Giroud to Wolfsburg. I completely disagree with that because GIroud still has some value.

I do agree with the idea that Arsenal should should ‘jump’ at the opportunity to sell Theo Walcott.

West Ham have reportedly made a £20m bid for the English striker. That’s far more than we could ever have expected after the realization we’ve made this year. He has done next to nothing and provided nothing except frustrations. He has been offside more than ever. His finishing has been terribly poor. It’s just been a year to forget.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Theo Walcott is 27 now. The fact that he has gone an entire decade without any major improvements to his game should be a massive red flag. It should have driven his price way down to any interested parties. But somehow, if the rumors are to be believed, West Ham are offering a significant chunk. Enough, in fact, to buy someone like Arek Milik to build a future around.

This is a blessing in disguise and Arsenal must capitalize. There should be very little negotiations. If Wenger is serious about moving this team forward, he needs to cut the dead weight. Losing Arteta, Flamini and Rosicky (less so Rosicky) is a step in the right direction.

Walcott has to be pretty high up on this list. His continual use not only hampers Arsenal’s play, but hampers the progression of younger, more talented guys like Joel Campbell and Serge Gnabry, who can make a bigger impact for a longer time.
