Arsenal may not be producing a massive amount of young talent, but Serge Gnabry is one guy that is just waiting for a chance. He is geared to become a star.

This is dicey. I did this last year for the Ox. It didn’t work out. In my infinite wisdom I pointed to the Ox and said ‘that’s the guy who is going to break out this year!’ It ended up being Joel Campbell and Alex Iwobi who broke out instead.

This year, I vow to be proven right. However, if you’re superstitious, you may want to start doing whatever bad-juju-eliminating ritual you feel comfortable with.

Anyway, Serge Gnabry. One of the forgotten topics of last season. Since I’ve painted this picture so many times throughout the year, I am going to spin a new analogy to make it sound fresh and creative.

Serge Gnabry was geared up to sell girl scout cookies like no one had ever done before. After missing the previous year’s cookie season, he was chomping at the bit. In his debut cookie-selling year, he showed so much potential, even selling to those snobby people at the end of the road.

However, the troop leader decided it would be best to rehabilitate his confidence by sending him to a lesser, rival troop to sell cookies – but in the same neighborhood.

It was a trap. The other troop just wanted Gnabry to chain him up in the basement of an abandoned house. After all, Gnabry did outsell them in his debut cookie-selling year.

Gnabry’s original troop leader had so many other cookie-sellers that he let Gnabry rot away in the basement, eating only bread and water and never seeing the light of day. Finally, he went in and rescued him.

But the cookie-selling season was already over. Another year wasted for young Gnabry.

Analogy over, let’s talk future. Serge Gnabry is such a talent and his past two years have been nothing short of a tragedy. Everyone who has seen him play for Arsenal has remarked how talented he is. Seriously, try to find someone who has anything bad to say about him. Unless you ask Tony Pulis, you will come up empty.

Even Mesut Ozil has pointed out that his speedy, ‘robust’ young countryman is destined for great things. Gnabry made an impact at Arsenal at the age of 18. Just like the Ox. He has a similar skill set as the Ox. The only difference is that the Ox has now had four years of wasted development and Gnabry has had none.

Serge Gnabry is going to remind everyone what true progression looks like. This is a huge year for him and, barring any signings (Henrikh Mkhitaryan!), he should be in prime contention to nab a starting role in Arsenal’s squad. He would only be competing with Alex Iwobi and the Ox, two guys right on Gnabry’s level.

Arsenal could benefit from the fire and passion that Gnabry has had pent up from last year. He returned for the U21 side and scored goals. Go figure. It’s time to let him lose on Arsenal’s main stage. Again.
