Ian Wright has had his say on who he wants Arsenal to bring in this Summer transfer window, and I wholeheartedly agree with his assessment.

There aren’t many people who are as well equipped to spot a goalscorer than Ian Wright. The Arsenal legend scored 128 goals in 221 games for the Gunners during a prosperous spell in the ’90s and is considered one of the greatest pure goalscorers that the club has ever had.

If anyone has an eye for a top quality goalscorer, it is Ian Wright, and he has had his say on who he believes would fit well in to this current Arsenal team.

Wright wants Vardy at the Emirates, and I for one, completely and utterly agree with him. For a number of years, Arsenal have need a pure goalscorer. Since the days of Van Persie, Wenger has often employed players who bring more than just goals to the table.

"Sorry Leicester but I want Vardy at Arsenal. – Ian Wright"

Many in Arsenal circles have called for Wenger to bring in a world class striker to replace Olivier Giroud as the focal point of the Arsenal attack. However, while Arsenal do need additions in the striking department, they do not need to spend £40-50 million on a world class striker. It simply isn’t necessary and the money would be much better invested in other areas of the team such as center half.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Bringing in someone to replace Giroud would negate all the excellent things that the French international brings to the table. He has an outstanding touch, brings a physical presence to an otherwise small Arsenal side, is great in the air and knits together much of the pretty but sometimes aimless Arsenal passing.

Where Giroud’s game is lacking is in his goalscoring. This is where Jamie Vardy comes. Arsenal do not need a world class striker. They simply need a world class goalscorer, someone who excels at putting the ball in the back of the net.

The incredible story of Jamie Vardy culminated in an award winning season last year in which he scored 24 goals in 36 league games. The Foxes forward is a true fox in the box, he is electric in behind, lethal one on one and razor sharp in and around the box. He is not a world class player, but he is a world class striker and is exactly what Arsenal need.
