There have been recent reports linking Arsenal left back Kieran Gibbs to a move away from the Emirates, with £12 million being rumored as a potential fee. That leads me to ask, how much is Gibbs actually worth and if Arsenal received such a figure, should he be sold this Summer?

Kieran Gibbs is a frustrating figure in Arsenal circles. He is, like so many players in the squad, a player of great unfulfilled potential who should certainly be a regular starter by now, rather than a rotational, at best, squad player.

Nacho Monreal has well and truly usurped Gibbs as the starting left back at Arsenal and it is looking as though he will maintain this role heading into next season. Consequently, a player of Gibbs’ quality may well be looking to other clubs for regular playing time.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Now at the age of 26, Gibbs is entering the prime of his career and will be hoping to play week in week out and regain his place in the England squad. This is simply unattainable at this point of time at Arsenal, and it has led to the birth of many rumors that could lead Gibbs away from the Emirates.

Such rumors include an apparent move from Liverpool. The Merseyside club are in need of improvement in the left back position with current starter Alberto Moreno coming under great scrutiny due to his poor defensive performances of late.

Gibbs, with his great pace and athletic ability, would be a perfect fit for Jurgen Klopp’s high octane, high press philosophy that he employs at Anfield. It is a logical fit for both player and club, however, how much money would Arsenal demand for their once heralded defender?

The report mentions a value of £12 million, and in all honesty, if Arsenal were to receive such an offer, it would be hard to reason turning it down. With the potential signing of Ricardo Rodriguez, Gibbs is now expendable, and £12 million for a potentially third string player is excellent value.

Clearly, these are just rumors, and there is a lot to unfold over the coming months of the season. However, Gibbs could be on his way out of the Emirates, but only for the right price.
