Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is in talks with Manchester City while Arsenal are struggling to finalize a deal for Jamie Vardy. The Gunners are seriously missing out if Aubameyang does indeed sign for their Premier League rivals.

There is a dearth of world class strikers in the world. Luis Suarez and Sergio Aguero top the list, but after that, pure number nines who can dominate games are, simply put, hard to find.

Arsene Wenger himself has struggled in recruiting top quality forwards, in the past searching for answers in players like Marouane Chamakh, Lukasz Podolski and Lord Bendtner (Dear Lord that Danish lump was bad).

It is a challenge that has seemed beyond Wenger, and while in Giroud, Arsenal possess a good and dangerous player, he is not of the world class variety. His touch is good, his link up play superb, but he lacks pace to spin in behind and his goal scoring exploits are, well, exploited by his critics, and rightfully so.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

The French international is a decent player with many attributes to his game, but is he a striker who is going to win you the league? Well, if he was, Arsenal would be atop the tree, not the miracle of Leicester City.

Speaking of Leicester, that is where Wenger has turned in his quest to finally acquire one of the world’s best net-ripplers. The miracle of the Foxes is only matched by the miraculous rise of their fox in the box, a player who shocked the world with 24 Premier League goals and a Football Writer’s award to go with it.

Wenger sees one Jamie Vardy as a the goal scorer that Olivier Giroud is not. However, there is another possibility, one that Arsenal would be foolish to pass up on.

Borussia Dortmund can boast about an impressive production line of forwards. Robert Lewandowksi, Mario Gotze and Marco Reus are all examples of such development. There is, however, one who perhaps surpasses all of them, a Gabonese international who goes by the rather elongated name of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Aubameyang is the hottest property in European football right now. With absolutely electrifying pace, a lethal finish and much better hold up play than he is given credit for, the 25 goal man is genuinely world class, and they are, as previously mentioned, a dying breed.

There is, though a spanner in the works of a potential deal that sees him move to the Emirates. That spanner is Manchester City, fronted by renowned Pep Guardiola. The Citizens are reportedly in talks with Dortmund about the possibility of stealing their most prized possession, and it is likely that Arsenal could miss out as a result.

That, in all honesty, would be a stupid move by Wenger and the Gunners. Aubameyang is pure class, and pure class does not come a calling all that often. Arsenal may not get another chance to sign a front man as potent as the Dortmund forward, and if they miss this one, it would leave an especially sour taste in the mouth.

Vardy is still a possibility, but Aubameyang is a superior one, and the Gunners would be foolish to not pursue his signature, however unlikely it may be.
