Arsenal: Tomas Rosicky Would Be A Huge Step Backwards

Arsenal are entering a crucial Summer in which they can build a squad to end the 12 year Premier League title drought. Some are absurdly stating that the Gunners should look to Tomas Rosicky again to help find that elusive title.

This is one of the best squads that Arsenal have had entering a season for many years. Perhaps not since the departures of Thierry Henry and Patrick Viera has Arsene Wenger been able to assemble a squad that is laced with such quality and variety.

Perhaps unlike other years, however, Arsenal have a squad of great depth. What has held the Gunners back in the past has been their replacements. The starting eleven has been as strong as any other in the league. However, with injuries ever the issue for Arsenal, the players that have had to come in for parts of the year have been poor.

Now, though, Arsenal are blessed with strength in numbers. Players like Jack Wilshere, Aaron Ramsey, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, all who are young and talented, are not currently in the starting eleven. It is a squad that has great depth but needs a few key acquisitions for the Gunners to be considered as genuine Premier League winners.

A few key acquisitions does not include Tomas Rosicky. The former Arsenal player would not be considered anything more than a reserve player at best. He certainly wouldn’t improve on the options that Wenger already has in his arsenal (I’m sorry) and wouldn’t improve the starting line up.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Moreover, Arsenal’s biggest issue during the last decade has been with injuries. Taking a huge step backwards and signing a player that is synonymous with injuries is a move that simply does not make sense.

Rosicky performed excellently for the Czecgh Republic in their 2-2 draw with Croatia, and it has led to some fans stupidly pining for Wenger to re-sign the floppy haired midfielder. if Arsenal do indeed offer Rosicky a contract extension it would be an utterly stupid decision.

While Rosicky offers a wealth of experience that would be useful in a young Arsenal squad. But his experience is one of losing. Winning is a habit, as is losing, as Rosicky is not a winner. He is a talented player who unfortunately could never develop into the top player that many had hoped he might, but he does not instill an attitude of winning.

Rather, he would be a squad player at best at a time when Arsenal need first team reinforcements. Depth is not the issue, quality is, and Rosicky only provides depth.
