Arsenal Screwing The Pooch With Vincent Janssen
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal need striker help and they aren’t even looking at some potential solutions. Vincent Janssen has it and wants it, but the Gunners remain coy.
Vincent Janssen is a name that really burst forth into the international spectrum this year. Funny how scoring 27 goals in 2700 Eredivisie minutes will do that for a guy. Janssen rocked it out at AZ Alkmaar this year, but at 22 years of age, it has to be time to take his talents to a bigger stage to continue his growth.

According to various sources out there, the two clubs dueling it out for the services of the Dutchman are Wolfsburg and everyone’s favorite scum, Tottenham Hotspur. Both appear rather confident that they will be able to secure the signing this transfer window and both would provide that ‘next level’ development that that he needs.
Plus, he is only going to cost £12m, that is insanely cheap. I don’t care where you score 27 goals in 2700 minutes, that price tag is worth it. The Eredivisie may not be one of the big five European divisions, but it’s not like it’s a slouch league and he didn’t do it with one of the big three either. He did it with AZ Alkmaar
To make matters even more enticing, Janssen is being encouraged to choose London over Ajax byt former Dutch internationals. “Challenge Harry Kane!” they’re saying.
Uh, where is Arsenal? With so much representation from ‘the Dutch way’ currently in the system, why is the club so grossly absent from all talk with Vincent Janssen? When rumors first came out that he was going to cost upwards of £30m, I ducked and covered, but if it’s to be believed that he is going to cost less than half of that then Arsenal need to be all in on the Dutch train.
Janssen is a born goal-scorer. He just knows how to finish. It’s a shame the Netherlands didn’t make the Euros, because at least then we would have known that Wenger knew he existed. He has already scored three goals in his first five starts with the Dutch national team.

I’ll do my best not to call him the next Robin van Persie, but come on. This 22 year old is being encouraged to go to Tottenham when Tottenham’s much more experienced, talented, successful brother, Arsenal is in need of a striker too. And not just any striker, a young, potentially prolific striker that can carry on Arsenal’s legacy.
And who would Janssen be sharing the future of Arsenal’s striking fortunes with? Donyell Malen, also conveniently a Dutchman. What am I missing here? Does it all fit together too well? Is that a real thing? Sure, Janssen isn’t a guarantee, but at that price, there is a little room for him to take his time.
Plus, from what we have seen of Janssen, he has shown some of the perks we would want in a striker. He may not have overwhelming pace, but he knows how to navigate tight spaces and turn defensive suffocation into chances. And he finishes. That should be all we need to know to give the guy a shot and save him from a future of mediocrity at Tottenham.
Next: Vardy Rejection Is Embarrassing
Arsenal need a striker with present day relevance and future upside. I have been pointing to Arek Milik as a solution, but Janssen is right there with him, if not superior to him. Pay the man and reap the benefits! Let’s ditch the ‘papering over the cracks’ solution that Jamie Vardy was and sign someone for the long haul.
