Arsenal: Aaron Ramsey Blueprints Revealed
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal have long been trying to unlock the blueprints to a successful Aaron Ramsey and Chris Coleman may finally have given them a gander.
The Euro 2016 knockout stages have begun and there are some pretty exciting things to follow. Not least of them is the rapid development of Wales and, in particular, Aaron Ramsey. The Arsenal midfield has been every bit of an enigma in his time in London and it has lead many to wonder what exactly the key to his development is.

Well, these Euros have given Arsenal a very good idea of how to unlock the true Aaron Ramsey.
Welsh manager Chris Coleman, who has never seen eye to eye with Arsene Wenger, has come out in high praise of his midfield commander and his words ring true. He may very well have said exactly what many of us were already thinking.
“Positionally, he’s better, he’s a lot more disciplined with us. But when you have a player with that type of energy, you don’t want to restrict him too much, you’ve got to let him express himself and enjoy himself,” he said, as quoted by the Express.
He went on to predict that Ramsey would do something special in the Euros by using his imagination.
I realize that he has only been the manager of Wales since 2012, but is it possible that Coleman has unlocked Aaron Ramsey before Arsene Wenger could? I guess the real question is whether or not Wenger has simply ignored these blueprints for a successful Ramsey and just tried to make him what he wants to make him.
At Arsenal, Ramsey has only had what he has at Wales once – in 2013/14. That year, which I will refer to as the year of Aaron Ramsey, the Arsenal man was everything the club needed. He was everywhere. And that was because he was handed the midfield role and allowed to do his thing.

Every year after that, he has been give a directive. ‘You’re a defensive midfielder’, ‘you’re a wide midfielder’, ‘don’t get too far forward’, ‘cover the defense’. I understand the need to establish some sort of responsibilities, but I believe that Arsenal has the capabilities to do what Coleman does. Just let Aaron Ramsey use his imagination. It works. We’ve seen it work.
Adding Granit Xhaka is going to help that because Xhaka will do all those things that Wenger would normally ask Ramsey to do. That means that Ramsey can, hopefully, do whatever he wants and make the most out of his creativity.
Wales gives Ramsey so much space to just be himself. While he is the best midfielder they have, so they don’t really have a choice, Wenger has to see the potential here. Le Prof has made a career out of molding players in his image but in his infinite wisdom he has to see that that method is not benefiting Aaron Ramsey any more. Arsenal need Ramsey to be himself and he can’t do that unless he is left in control of himself.
