Arsenal’s Theo Walcott has been heavily criticized for not fulfilling such high expectations when he first signed with the Gunners. However, the unpopular winger is set for his best season yet in an Arsenal shirt.

Many Arsenal players have suffered with injuries. It has come to a point where it seems  a surprise if Arsenal are not atop the injury table come the end of the year. Not only are these injuries detrimental to the success of the club in the then and now, but they are also crippling to the futures of those players.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Perhaps, however, no player epitomizes the stinting effect that injuries can have is one Theo Walcott. The Arsenal winger has now been with the club for a decade, signing as a fresh faced teenager from Southampton in the Summer of 2006.

He is yet to have the desired effect on the first team that was expected of him when he was first signed as one of the hottest young players on the market. While a lot of the blame can most definitely be laid at the door of Walcott, he hasn’t had much of a chance to due to two key factor beyond his control.

The first of these is the aforementioned injuries that have stopped him from ever having a extended run of full fitness in the starting eleven. Secondly, the positional uncertainty that has shrouded Walcott’s future in doubt has been a major hurdle that has held his development back.

Now, though, both these issues could well be resolved. Wenger is set to move Walcott to a permanent role as a right winger, a position that is Theo’s best, especially with the freedom to run in behind the defense. Moreover,Theo Walcott himself is confident that he is finding fitness. These two solutions to lingering problems are what set Theo up for his best season in an Arsenal shirt.
