Arsenal: Higuain Rumors Simply Mirroring Years Gone By
Per an official Napoli radio station, Gonzalo Higuain is definitely going to Arsenal this summer. I’m sure we’ve been here before though, haven’t we?
Arsenal are clearly after a striker. While rumors of interest are never something to ground such a statement on, the strong pursuit of Jamie Vardy clearly displays Arsene Wenger’s desire to bring in a center forward to either replace or accompany Giroud.

However, since Arsenal’s rather public and humiliating shunning on behalf of Vardy, there has been no confirmed bids for any other striker other than the completed signing of 21 year old Takuma Asano, that well know Japanese striker that every fan was pining for at the start of the transfer window.
One player who has been consistently linked with a move to the Emirates, however, is record setting Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain. The 36 goal man is one of the hottest forwards in Europe and is renowned goal scorer, proven in Europe and the international stage. He is not just a flash in the pan.
The reports have heated up this week with musings that Arsenal are considering a swap deal involving Giroud. Nonetheless, all these reports are exactly that. Reports. Nothing more than sweet nothings to the ears of hopelessly optimistic Arsenal fans.

However, perhaps the first sign of genuine proof that Arsenal are interested in such a sensational swoop comes in the way of Napoli’s official radio station.
Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli host Francesco Marciano has recently stated:
"“At the moment the rumour linking Higuain to Juve is true, but I am certain that in the end Pipita will leave Napoli to go abroad. He will almost certainly join Arsenal. For now the Gunners are offering €50m plus Giroud. Arsenal are trying to free up funds by selling players so they can increase the economic part of the proposal.”"
These are utterly fascinating quotes, comments that truly excite the heart. But I can’t help but be pessimistic about any player that is ever mentioned in the same breath as Arsenal. These rumors are simply mirroring the frustrating past of Arsenal’s recent transfer behavior.

They say that history repeats itself. Well, this repetition is becoming frustrating. Unfortunately, I don’t see it ending with Higuain, however nice that may be. At least Arsenal signed Asano, eh?
