Arsenal have been strongly linked with Riyad Mahrez and Shkodran Mustafi in recent days but who else are the tabloids saying could arrive and depart the Emirates Stadium before the close of the summer transfer window?

Arsenal will not let Kieran Gibbs go on loan to Premier League rivals West Ham, who want an experienced left-back to cover for the injured Aaron Cresswell, according to the Sun.

The 26-year-old England international is behind Spaniard Nacho Monreal in the Arsenal pecking order and West Ham manager Slaven Bilic is in the market for an experienced defender to replace Cresswell. Cresswell is expected to miss up to four months with a knee injury sustained during West Ham’s pre-season tour of Austria.

However, with the Gunners turning down the proposal, West Ham will now turn their attention to one of the following: Hull‘s Andrew Robertson, 22, FC Copenhagen’s Swedish defender, Ludwig Augustinsson, 22 and Norwich defender Martin Olsson, 28.

According to Sky Sports News, Norwich have already rejected a £3m bid for Olsson from West Ham and Hull turned down a £7m offer from the Irons for Robertson on Friday.

In other news, Sky Sports News expect Arsenal to return with an improved bid for Lyon forward Alexandre Lacazette.

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas claimed he did not expect Arsenal to return with an improved offer for the 25-year-old, as he had already rejected a bid in the region of £30m for the Frenchman last week.

Lacazette, who has scored 48 league goals over the past two seasons, signed a new four-year contract to remain at Lyon only last August but Arsenal are still interested in bringing him to London before the close of the window.

Arsene Wenger refused to deny he was trying to sign Riyad Mahrez after watching him play for Leicester in Los Angeles on Sunday night. The Premier League champions lost 4-0 to Paris Saint-Germain and PFA Player of the Year Mahrez was reportedly subdued throughout. But according to The Mirror that is unlikely to deter the Arsenal manager who is keen the 25-year-old to his squad.

Reported target Moussa Sissoko has returned to Tyneside to train with Newcastle United. This is despite Newcastle being hopeful on securing his replacement with the signing of Hull City midfielder Mo Diame and Sissoko being linked with Arsenal, Liverpool, Juventus and Real Madrid.

Romelu Lukaku may finally be on his way out of Goodison Park to join his former club Chelsea. The Blues have already failed with a £57m offer but are ready to test the Toffees’ resolve with an improved bid of £68m for the prolific yet controversial Belgium international. He has also been heavily linked with Arsenal.
