Jose Mourinho’s swipe at Arsenal is utterly childish and immature, but his argument does have some worrying foundation.

Arsene Wenger and Jose Mourinho do not get along. If that was not clear before their spat this past week, then it certainly is now. For many years, Mourinho has been the aggravator of Wenger’s deepest anger and irritation, and now he has yet again taken another swipe at Wenger’s club.

Amid the long lasting Paul Pogba transfer saga, both Wenger and Jurgen Klopp, to Mourinho’s annoyance, criticized spending so much on one player. Mourinho, in typical angry and bullish fashion, called such criticism as unethical, and now the deal is completed, he has once again took a swipe at both Arsenal and Liverpool:

More from Pain in the Arsenal

"“I like everything. I know the discussion, I understand that sometimes in football, things happen and the club breaks the record, but this is only possible at clubs like Man United. When I heard some of the comments and heard some of the managers criticising that, I don’t think they ever have this problem because to have this problem, you need to be at one of the top clubs in the world. So at Man United, it can happen.”"

Such comments are utterly uncalled for. First and foremost, Wenger and Klopp were correct in their assessment of the Pogba deal. It is utterly ridiculous that one player should command a fee of £89 million and it is typical Mourinho to claim that he is this incredible manager when he simply spends insane amounts of money like he’s on football manager with no care in the world about the future of the club.

While Wenger and Klopp’s criticism of the signing is fair and Mourinho’s comments are there simply to incite a reaction, he does make points that are more than valid. When would Arsenal and Arsene Wenger ever make such a statement signing as Pogba? Never.

I have said previously that spending for spending’s sake is pointless. However, spending is still a necessity, whether Wenger likes it or not. There is a common theme between the winners of the league and the amount they spend and Arsenal are simply not willing to enter the transfer market with any kind of conviction or effect.

It is a sad state of affairs that Mourinho, in his childish ways, can actually make a valid criticism about Arsenal’s non-spending. When will Wenger learn and spend some flipping money. Please!
