Arsenal will likely spend deadline day in silence, barring anything shocking, but that’s okay, as Wenger has put together his most complete transfer window.

It’s like every previous summer was just building up to this one. Arsenal has historically gone into every season unprepared and ill-equipped to mount a full-on title challenge. This year looked to be no different. The first two games showcased that Wenger’s side was still under-prepared.

This summer faced the same three questions: Could we find a striker? Could we add a spine to the midfield? Could we finally staff the defense?

Wenger answered them in order of importance, it seemed. That midfielder that has been missing for a decade was answered immediately in Granit Xhaka. Already we see what he brings to the table and it is definitely something that has been crucially missing. His long ball ability fits perfectly with what this Arsenal attack is going for and his leadership and steel have been lacking since Vieira.

It took awhile for those second two major signings to be announced, but in the process, we met Rob Holding. 20 years old, Holding effectively replaced Chambers in one fell swoop and convinced us of his ability so much that most supporters doubted whether Wenger was even going to sign another defender.

Lucas Perez came next. He wasn’t the ambiguous ‘world class striker’ that everyone wanted, but he is going to surprise people. He made the most of what he was given in his first ever year as a striker and there will be plenty of scenes of him slotting the ball home for Arsenal.

There will also be plenty of scenes of him setting up the perfect shot for someone else to slot it home.

Finally, Shkodran Mustafi brought it all home. A premium German defender with all the ability we could ask for, Mustafi is the next Mertesacker (only more agile). Just 24 years old, he figures to be lined up next to Koscielny for the long haul and then to Gabriel for an equally long haul.

Wenger also added Takuma Asano and Kelechi Nwakali for the future, but we can’t exactly pass much judgment on them just yet.

This is a complete window. Everything that was needed was answered for and there is no reason to go into deadline day sweating or panicking. Wenger will not have to make any last minute signings in an attempt to fix a glaring need. It’s all accounted for.

This window has to rank as one of best windows Wenger has ever put together. The shaky middle part was no fun, but the end result looks brilliant and, while we still have yet to see how they will pan out, everything points towards all of these immediate-impact signings having just that – and immediate impact.

There are no questions. No needs. We can sit back and watch other teams scramble on transfer deadline day knowing that Wenger spent on his four major signings what Manchester United spent on Pogba alone.
