Arsenal looked to have a way out of Yaya Sanogo, but it fell through. Is there any question that can be answered that will explain his stay?

Towards the end of transfer deadline day, we heard talk that Yaya Sanogo would be sent out on loan to Leeds United. What an opportunity! The Arsenal man would be at a storied club trying to find their feet and play time would be easy to find.

However, according to reports, the deal fell through and speculation is that it was blocked by Wenger.

Of all the things I regularly complain about, most have answers, I just don’t agree with them.

Why is Theo Walcott still here? Well, he has shown good ability in the past and surely there is hope he can return to that if he can stay healthy

Why was Serge Gnabry sold? His profile rose following the Olympics and with a year left on his contract, Arsenal could not give him all he wanted.

Why was Joel Campbell loaned? This is a tough one, but you can chalk it up to Walcott and the Ox being in the way and Campbell not being happy with how his hard word was not being rewarded. So he requested a loan with the hopes that after another year of Walcott stumbling, he could return to a better chance.

Why is Yaya Sanogo still here? I have no damn clue.

I don’t think we will ever know why the bumbling Frenchman is being so voraciously defended by Wenger. Le Prof still believes that Sanogo can play a role for Arsenal. I wanted to type ‘lol’ after that sentence but that would be unprofessional.

It might be a case of freezing him out, but that seems a bit cruel and premature right? I almost compared him to Nicklas Bendtner, but that seems to do a disservice to the Dane, although I’m not sure why.

He is 23 years old, has shown zero progression. His loan to Crystal Palace was a sham. His loan to Ajax to work with Dennis Bergkamp ended with the consensus being that he had ‘no qualities’. He then went to Charlton where he scored a hat trick, dropped an atomic elbow and was promptly forgotten.

Why is Yaya Sanogo still here?

The question cannot be answered. I can think of no logical answer that would suffice. He isn’t playing – nor should he. Ever. Lucas Perez is here now. Chuba Akpom is better. Donyell Malen is coming. Takum Asano was signed.

Why is Yaya Sanogo still here?

I feel like the question in and of itself makes no sense. It’s like we need to open up a whole new realm of questions before we can do justice to this one. What did Wenger see in him? How can he still see whatever he once saw? These questions would help us start the debunking of why this man is still on the books.

I have heard of late bloomers. Lucas Perez is a late bloomer. But I have never seen a striker as uncoordinated as Sanogo. Watch the ‘low-light’ reel above of him at Ajax. Those aren’t just missed chances. Those are colossal gaffs that no one who calls himself a footballer should be making on a regular basis.

Wenger has a knack for his projects, but how do you justify loaning out Toral and Campbell and selling Gnabry, yet retaining Sanogo? Not only that, but you refuse to loan him (again, reportedly). Does he think that Sanogo is going to have an impact this year? Because it he starts before Chuba Akpom, I think there will be a mutiny.
