Arsenal: Alexandre Lacazette’s Contract Saga No Business Of Wengers
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal were supposed to be done with Alexandre Lacazette for good. So why is his contract talk still popping up in our headlines?
I remember about a week or so ago I made this really cool, resolute statement that I would never speak of Alexandre Lacazette coming to Arsenal again. Oops. I kind of knew that would never work out. Not with how everything gets blown far and away out of proportion.

Arsenal has been linked to Lacazette for over a year. He looked like the perfect fit and he looked like the perfect alternative to Antoine Griezmann. But it just never happened. Mainly because Lyon play head games with anyone wanting to do business with them.
Wenger supposedly had a £29m bid turned down, as it was far below what Lyon valued him at. Yet it’s starting to look like that may have been the best deal they could have cashed in on, because now, according to reports, Lacazette has turned down a fresh new Lyon contract. All in spite of saying that he could score 100 goals in Ligue 1.
Chances are, given Lyon’s profit-seeking, they just offered him a lackluster deal and he’s turning it down to get better terms. But any time a contract is declined, it has to be spun as more. And to be fair, it very well could be more, we don’t know the details yet or what the deal was even turned down for.

But let’s make something clear – Lacazette’s contract saga is no concern of ours. The man isn’t coming to Arsenal. I believe the summer proved that. I also see no need for a continued pursuit of Lacazette when Arsenal will have Giroud, Lucas and Welbeck before Donyell Malen spearheads the scene.
From there, it’s about building from within and Wenger has options. Stephy Mavididi has himself some solid potential and Eddie Nketiah has signed his big-boy deal and there is all the hype in the world around him.
There is no reason to go diving for Lacazette. If Lyon finally get serious and try to sell him for a reasonable price, then sure why not, Wenger can take a stab at him. But there is no reason to go out of the way to secure Lacazette any more.

The Gunners are actually well stocked at striker with the addition of Lucas. Plus, do we really want to play Lyon’s transfer games any longer? I’m not too keen on it.
