5. Santi Cazorla

Contract or no contract, Santi Cazorla continues to be such an integral piece of this equation. A lot of that has to come down to his unique situation. Cazorla is an attacking midfielder. There is no questioning that. He is an attacker in a defensive role.

But showing up defensively in the formation doesn’t mean much. With the right defensive partner, Cazorla can spend most of his time getting forward. And with Ozil, Walcott, Alexis and Iwobi already pressing up, the Spaniard has his say of where he wants to go, who he wants to attack and just about every other bit of freedom.

He has taken full advantage of that, making himself indispensable. There is no one on this team that could do what Cazorla does as well as he does it. Ramsey’s inconsistency leads me to think that the Welshman would hit higher highs, but also lower lows. With Cazorla, there is rarely ever any doubting what he can do for the squad.

Hopefully the club sees fit to extend his stay, as there really isn’t any sign of him slowing down like there is Nacho Monreal.

We are getting into the masterminds behind this success. On to No. 4.
