Roberto Mancini is reportedly being lined up to replace Arsene Wenger this summer as the Arsenal manager. What utter rubbish!

The long-term future of Arsenal is a topic of great debate and uncertainty. While Arsene Wenger will continue his role until at least the end of the season, it will be up to him when he chooses to leave, rather than the club sacking him.

His successor has been a question that has been asked for many years – particularly with his recent 20 year anniversary dominating much of the news coverage – and many names have been linked with the role, including a whole host of former players.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

One name that has recently appeared is former Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini. Reportedly, the Italian is interested in returning to the Premier League having settled well in England during his time with City, and quotes from a close friend suggest that he is eyeing up Wenger’s job in particular with Wenger potentially leaving in only 8 months time:

"“Roberto has plans to return to the Premier League. He likes Arsenal. He thinks they’re a great a club. I believe Arsenal would be a top choice for him. He prefers to take on a team at a club with strong ambitions… He really, really likes Arsenal.”"

I find it extremely difficult to believe that Ivan Gazidis and the board would ever consider Mancini as Wenger’s successor. While the former Inter Milan manager may be a huge admirer of the club, he was unsuccessful with the Serie A club after also suffering an underwhelming tenure with Galatasaray.

His management style does not suit that of the Gunners – a style that has been chiselled out by Wenger throughout his two decades in North London, he is far more aggressive in his ways, does not prioritise, free flowing attacking football and also has not proven that he can develop young players like Wenger has for so long.

The reports simply seem like much ado about nothing. Mancini may well fancy the Gunners role, but for the club, he is simply not the right option whatsoever, and I would be very surprised to see him at the Emirates any time soon.
