Carl Jenkinson and Kieran Gibbs

The regular starting fullbacks are pretty set for Arsene Wenger. Bellerin and Monreal. Even in the latter’s flat-lining, he still has enough credit built up to hold his ground over the encroaching Kieran Gibbs. Those two do not figure to be threatened anytime soon.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

That being said, seeing Jenko and Gibbs out there, the two that were supposed to be the mainstays not that long ago, will do my heart good. I personally can’t wait to see them combine again. Maybe it will be an inflated dream and they won’t be nearly as good as I hoped, but at the very least we know that Gibbs can hold his own and Jenko loves the club.

While Wenger did not say that Jenkinson will start, he said he will play and it seems unlikely that he would keep Jenko out in favor of Ainsley Maitland-Niles when Le Prof could instead just push the young Englishman up to his natural position as a forward and let the former Finnish right back into his natural position.

Moving on to more cause for excitement wedged in between this sandwich of nostalgia.
