Ian Wright has said that he hopes Arsenal sign Sergio Aguero. While it would be wonderful to happen, it is nothing more than a ridiculous pipe dream.

The 4-1 win against Sunderland put Arsenal top of the table for a brief moment. Until Manchester City fired four past a struggling West Brom side just a few short hours later, there was clear water between the Gunners and the rest of the pack.

With a duo of braces from Alexis Sanchez and Olivier Giroud, the win over David Moyes’ side was not a surprise whatsoever. However, after a 20 minutes spell of complacency early in the second half, with the match sitting at 1-1, this was not as easy a win as the scoreline suggests.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

This was a game that the Arsenal of old would not have won. They would have crumbled under the pressure of a raucous crowd, an inspired, battling opposition and the expectation of their own fanbase. However, win they did, and now, the aspirations of a first title in 12 years are not mere dreams. They are genuine, achievable targets.

Arsene Wenger has highlighted the goal of winning the league, and former striker Ian Wright has some rather ambitious advice for his old manager: sign Sergio Aguero. Speaking to BT Sport after the win, Wright stated:

"“What I would like to happen is that Pep continues to mess around with Aguero and then Arsenal buy him. And then we just win the league off the back of that, simple as that.”"

Now, there is not a Gooner in the world that would turn down the chance to sign Aguero. He is the best player in the Premier League, would be an utter sensation at the Emirates, playing alongside the creative talents of Mesut Ozil and Santi Cazorla, but come on Ian, at least have a semblance of realism.

While there have been rumours of a rift between the Argentine and notoriously difficult to please Pep Guardiola, there is simply no chance that Manchester City are selling Aguero to a direct rival. I would be extremely surprised if they sold him, period. Nevermind to a club that are challenging them for domestic and European honours.

So, while it is a wonderful pipe dream, it just simply isn’t going to happen. Would it win Wenger the league? Most likely. Will it happen? No a chance.
