Arsenal: Daniel Sturridge Made Irrelevant By Danny Welbeck
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal are naturally linked to Daniel Sturridge yet again, but he is and forever will be irrelevant so long as Danny Welbeck is in North London.
Arsenal will forever an always be linked to any striker that may be looking for a new home. So long as they only really have one proven striker on then books. And that is the case yet again with Daniel Sturridge being linked to two potential North London homes – Tottenham and our very own Gunners.

Sturridge was courted by Arsenal this past summer, according to rumors, and that was only going to grow when it became obvious how little Jurgen Klopp thinks of his Englishman. The speedy forward has been very open about his doubts at Liverpool, and it’s plain to see why. He is never given the a chance. And so long as Klopp is at Anfield, that is unlikely to change.
As such, we welcome in the rumors. Tottenham and Arsenal seem to be leading the charge, but if that’s the case, it’s a one-horse race.
To put it simply, Danny Welbeck makes Sturridge completely irrelevant at the Emirates. They are nearly identical players. Maybe slide the scale a bit in Sturridge’s favor for proven ability to score but slide it a bit in Welbeck’s favor for that extra dose of strength and physicality.
Plus, Welbeck can and does play a very strong wide position, providing strength and height at a position that doesn’t normally have it.

In terms of age, Welbeck is a full two years younger than his English counterpart, so the scale is again tilted in out man’s favor. He has a much better chance of improving from his current abilities and given how much faith Wenger shows in his guys, you can almost bank on it.
Welbeck provides more of just about everything and Arsenal already have him. Plus, while Welbeck cost a paltry £16m, Sturridge could cost up to twice that. Meaning that Wenger would be doubling down on something he already has.
The only concern I have is if he does go to Tottenham. A Kane-Sturridge combo at our dearly beloved rivals is a fearsome prospect and one that would undoubtedly cause us a good deal of problems in the future.

Still though, we have to show faith in our man and give him ample opportunity before we start buying someone else just like him. Long live Welbz.
