Granit Xhaka and Aaron Ramsey

Here’s the deal… This is the midfield partnership that has the most flash and bang pizzazz. It is also the only midfield partnership that has not been used, as well as being the only midfield partnership that looks like it will never be used. And I find that infuriating.

Wenger is more likely to let the offensively stale Francis Coquelin and Mohamed Elneny partnership run around the pitch, aimlessly trying to pick out passes. Meanwhile, he himself admitted that he doesn’t like strictly defensive midfielders.

So why haven’t we given two able bodied, tireless workers with defensive upside and more offense than Elneny and Coquelin combined a chance?

It’s getting frustrating and with Wenger admitting that Ramsey will not be played centrally, it may be a case of me beating my head against the wall for the rest of the season pitching this as the ideal midfield partnership while never actually seeing it.

Francis Coquelin deserves his place. He absolutely does. But why not see what else we can accomplish with different combinations?
