Arsenal definitely doesn’t need any more drama, but headlines refuse to oblige. That said, Mesut Ozil didn’t say anything wrong!

When you have superstars, like Arsenal clearly do, you are always going to have to face unwanted exit rumors. Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil are obviously the two superstars that are going to garner the most attention and, as such, they have been overflowing with exit rumors.

With Alexis, I have always been a bit nervous because he has shown discontent in the past. He has stormed off, complained about the team and been clearly disappointed with results.

But Mesut Ozil wasn’t like that. He changed his own body language to please the fans, he is very adamant about how much he loves it in North London and we have never had any reason to doubt him. Not when put up next to Alexis Sanchez.

And that has not changed with his latest interview.

Most exit rumors have no basis. They come from nowhere and return to nowhere when they die. That’s what happens when you’re nothing more than someone trying to stir something up. And most of the time Ozil is there to laugh off the rumors and say that he is dedicated to Arsenal and loves life in North London.

This time around, it was the exact same thing. Yes, he said his token line about how anything is possible in football but after that he was quick to say that he was happy at Arsenal, loved the fans and truly enjoyed where he was with his footballing career.

But you won’t hear that in the headlines. You will hear the “Ozil won’t rule out return to Madrid” headlines. I’ll admit, I was suckered in too. I thought that he had actually said something horrendous at a pretty bad time.

But guess what?

He hasn’t! It’s all rubbish drummed up by the media to make you a little bit more uneasy. The actual interview was harmless. He praised the fans, said he has friends there, yada yada. The typical thing that any player will say of his previous team.

Don’t let the headlines scare you. If Ozil actually says something inflammatory, which he won’t, it won’t be appearing as a cut quote on a headline. It will be much bigger than that.

In the mean time, Ozil was back at his best and happier than ever against West Ham. So there’s that.
