Arsenal are past the days of losing out on stars to major rivals. So back off, you stupid Alexis Sanchez to Chelsea rumors.

Arsenal used to lose out on like, all of their stars to direct rivals. That is a horrid place to be. Don’t buy a kit of your favorite player, because you’ll end up having to turn your No. 4 Fabregas kit into a ‘BFG’ kit.

Not everyone’s name is that convenient.

That time is over. You hear me? OVER!!!

But the rumors never will be. Arsenal (and any club for that matter) will always have their stars linked away, even to major and/or direct rivals. But with our Gunners, the risk of losing someone to a fellow title-contender is a non-factor. It’s false, based in complete fallacy, and, dare I say, stupid.

Alexis Sanchez is linked to Chelsea. Yeah. Okay. The Chilean may have shown that he can be disgruntled from time to time, but going to the Blues? No chance. He has far more character than that. That is the move of a snake and traitor and Alexis is not, nor has he ever been, one of those.

He is not greedy, he is not heartless. He is a quality dude. And yes, that does play a role in evaluating the plausibility of this rumor. because no good, quality dude is going to make that move. Not by a long shot. Not in the state that Arsenal is in.

Many are pleased with Alexis’s ‘response’ on Instagram. How could you not be? I wouldn’t call it a response though.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

While I usually love when players come out and dismiss rumors, what the Chilean did is almost better. I am super reading into his Instagram post, which I never do, but hear me out. Alexis didn’t do a Bellerin and say “nope, not leaving.”

He didn’t even acknowledge the rumor. He just saluted the greatest team to ever take the pitch in football ever and went on with life.

It’s an ambiguous response that says more about the status of this non-rumor than anything else could have. Alexis has pride for the badge on his shirt and the history behind it. He is not some cut-rate mercenary who goes where the money is good.

Let’s not kid ourselves and pretend like Wenger didn’t do this on purpose. He knows what kind of player he wants and he would not sign a cut-rate mercenary ever again.
