Arsenal Need To Take Advantage Of Kind Run Of Fixtures
While the past week has severely dented Arsenal’s title hopes. There is still a long way to go and the next sequence of fixtures are crucial to any potential title chances.
Even the eternal optimist Arsene Wenger couldn’t find a way to sugar-coat our recent form. Arsene claimed it had been a ‘horrible week’ and I couldn’t agree more. Two damaging away defeats have left Arsenal’s title hopes hanging by a thread.

But Arsenal need to escape from the current doom and gloom and get back to winning ways. While Gooners may continue to complain and argue, there is no time for the Arsenal players to sit around and mope.
If the last week has taught us anything it’s that a lot can change in seven days. Last Saturday, after defeating Stoke, we were top of the table (albeit with Chelsea having a game in hand). Yet after two defeats, we are staring at a margin of nine points to the top of the table. While this does heavily concern me, it also shows the opposite can happen to any of the title challengers around us.

Chelsea are on a magnificent run but can’t keep their winning streak going forever (at least I hope not). Even Liverpool, City, Spurs and United will suffer blips in the next few months. Arsenal need to bounce back and be clinical.
In recent years, after damaging defeats there has been little time for recovery due to a difficult schedule. But if Arsenal look on the horizon, up next are a series of games they can certainly capitalise on.
Out of the next six league games, four are at the Emirates (West Brom, Crystal Palace, Burnley and Watford) and the two away games are at Bournemouth and Swansea. The notion that every game in the Premier League is a battle is certainly true but you can’t tell me that this run is one of the more difficult of this season even in current form.
We have to take it game by game but as a confident Gooner, I believe we can win 6 out of 6. Teams like West Brom and Bournemouth may provide sterner tests but Arsenal have enough quality to dispatch of them if they play well. Two defeats do not mean we are all of a sudden a bad side.
Coupled with kind fixtures for Arsenal, many title rivals play each other in the next month and a half which means points will be dropped somewhere along the line. Most pundits will say character is shown in the big games against title rivals but games against the lesser of the league count for just as many points. If Arsenal can win the next six and capitalise on their rivals’ slip-ups along the way, that will also show character.
Despite saying all this, it will not be an easy task. Had we even taken a point from the Etihad, the squad would have had more confidence. Injuries to key players means that the winter period could have a taxing effect on the current squad. It’s vital to keep that togetherness and fight that Wenger keeps preaching about.
Arsene has a big job on his hands this week to restore the confidence within the side. If ever there was a time to prove the doubters wrong then winning the next six would be a good way to do it.

If we could go into our meeting with Chelsea in February (the next game after the above six) even just six points behind, there could still be a chance. Things may not look bright at the moment but as a club and as a fan base we need to stick together. That starts on Monday against West Brom. Get a win there and we can start looking up rather than down.
