Arsenal’s 2016 was a roller coaster and a half. In the span of this calendar year, the Gunner’s have been in the hunt for two different Premier league titles, been counted out of those titles, came back, and been counted out again.

Last year in particular, the Gunners were up and down in the race. Just when you thought they were out, they’d come back. Just when you thought they’d have it, they were out. The now famous joke is that they forced Tottenham to finish third in a two-horse race.

Arsenal had no business getting into the top two last year but they finished second in ‘their last best chance to win the league.’

In the process, we learned new heights of elation and new depths of frustration as the chase ended empty-handed.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

This year has been more of the same. From top of the table and the strongest team in England to nine points back and counted out (again) in the span of just a few months. We have seen the Gunners at their absolute pinnacle of brilliance (West Ham) and Arsenal at the pit of their despair (Everton, Manchester City).

But through it all, it’s hard to deny that this team has improved. The consistency levels are returning, the ability to fight back is returning and the lack of depth has largely disappeared (just ask Tony Pulis).

The summer was eventful, expensive and incredibly beneficial to the team. It should give us even more optimism going into future transfer windows, as Wenger is clearly not a penny-pincher an more.

All of that being said, let’s get into the 10 massive things we have learned out our Gunners in 2016.
