9. There’s nothing wrong with panic buys

Normally, buying someone at the last second just because you need to fill the position that he plays is not a good idea. Many players have tanked, crashed, burned and any other negative verb in this endeavor.

Arsene Wenger fell under heavy criticism for purchasing Lucas and Mustafi at the buzzer because they reeked of panic buys. Why was Shkodran Mustafi worth more money than Mats Hummels and why was no attempt made on Hummels in the first place?

Well, hindsight is 20/20 and we see how brilliant it panned out, but it is clear that not even Wenger expected Mustafi to catch on so quickly. he has said so himself.

So is he a panic buy? Probably. And that’s okay. I would rather see a desperation buy at the buzzer than leaving the position vacant in the hopes that an internal solution will miraculously step up and fill the void.

Wenger used to also fall under criticism for trying to hard to find the perfect signing. Well, guess what? Mustafi was not meant to be the perfect signing, yet he turned out being just that.

Let’s change the tune a bit and talk about one of our young studs.
