3. Mesut Ozil needs Olivier Giroud

Crazy, right? Just last season the outcry was that Mesut Ozil needed a speedy striker that could be picked out for long balls and make Ozil truly unstoppable. Seemed logical enough. Get rid of big, blundering Giroud, who spoils so many of the German’s assists, and get someone like Griezmann.

Well, this season Arsenal has turned Alexis into that striker that we thought Ozil needed and surprise! The German maestro is starved of assists. He didn’t get his first assist until Giroud got back and scored his first goal. Fluke? Not quite.

Ozil used Giroud to win the West Brom match and showed yet again that our maestro needs that big target to focus in on in the middle of the box. 19 assists he accumulated last year and nine went through Olivier Giroud.

So let’s drop this “Giroud is holding Ozil back” ridiculousness and accept that he actually makes Ozil much better. Here’s to hoping Giroud stays around for the long haul.

At No. 2, we’re talking absentees and what they bring and how they’re missed.
