Alexis Sanchez was fuming throughout Arsenal’s frustrating 3-3 draw with Bournemouth. Such anger perhaps hints at a worrying future.

There was a moment, just after the full-time whistle, in which peace and serenity fell across the Vitality Stadium. It was not, however, the usual, joy-filling, soul-cleansing peace. Rather, it came with a sense of uncertainty and doubt, as if fans, players and coaches of both Arsenal and Bournemouth were unsure of how yet to feel.

It was a confusing end to a pulsating game. In a three goal hole thanks to some defensive ill-discipline and the mental softness that had apparently been irradicated if the prevalent storylines of the season are to be believed, Arsene Wenger, a picture of exasperation, could only watch on in disbelief as his side miraculously hauled their way back into a game that had previously been considered finished.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

As such, the feeling of relief, almost joy at an unlikely point was present, as was a disappointment at the inability to snatch a late win, as was a spate of sheer anger at the lethargic display throughout the first hour. There was one man who was clear with his emotions, however.

Throughout the match, Alexis Sanchez was visibly frustrated with his teammates, entering into vociferous debate with many of them, particularly Aaron Ramsey in the first period. Moreover, by full-time, while everyone was still piling through the mire of confused, muddled feelings, Sanchez was whipping off his gloves, lashing them at the ground before storming down the tunnel, raging at his team’s inability to win what should have been another victory as they look to keep pace with the steamrolling Chelsea.

There was an evident disparity in the reaction of Sanchez to the draw from the rest of his teammates. There was a depressingly sedated feel to Wenger’s post-match press conference, as he tread the fine line between disappointment at failing to win the game and praising the apparent mental toughness his side showed.

The raging Sanchez was not treading along any line.

The Chilean displayed a winner’s attitude. He viewed the draw as a downright disaster, something that could well be an apt description of Arsenal’s contract talks with their star man. In the latter stages of last season, Sanchez publicly declared his sadness at the poor finish his side had, questioning the effort, the desire and the fight of his teammates.

Rumours regarding a potential departure circled at such point with Sanchez reported to be unhappy. Now, with less than 18 months remaining on his contract, if Sanchez finds himself frustrated with the club, then he may also look to find himself a new home come the summer, and that would is a very worrying future indeed for the club he would leave behind.
