7. David Jack

David Jack holds many unique honors in the English football world. For starters, he was the first player to ever be transferred for a sum over £10,000. Couple that with the fact that he was the first ever player to score at Wembley.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Jack was a big name signing of the day for the Gunners in 1928. He was already an established name for Bolton, drilling home a massive 144 goals in 295 appearances. Herbert Chapman used Bolton’s financial troubles to filch the talented forward, who, despite joining the likes of Jack Lambert, established himself as a seriously prolific forward.

In the end, he would 124 goals in 208 appearances for Chapman’s Arsenal, toppling the numbers that Lambert put up and working himself into the Gunner’s top 10 best goal scorers of all time. He took home two titles with the Gunners both in 1930-31 and in 1932-33.

Chapman was blessed with some amazing strikers during his time as the helmsman. While David Jack was an outstanding talent, most of the strikers that Chapman employed boasted similar abilities.

At No. 6, we are getting into some rather elite company.
