Arsenal: Sergio Aguero The Unattainable Blockbuster
Sergio Aguero could be available to purchase in the summer. He is the unattainable blockbuster that Arsenal should definitely pursue.
There are few world-class players in football. There are even fewer world class players that are available to buy. Arsenal have been lucky enough to sign two of these upper echelon talents in recent years; the acquisitions of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez, but if they are to overcome the wealth and the power of the Chelseas, the Uniteds and the Citys, then more must be found.

One such player who may peek the interest of Arsene Wenger is Manchester City’s star striker, Sergio Aguero. The Argentine has fallen out of Pep Guardiola’s favour in recent weeks, with Gabriel Jesus usurping him as the spearhead of the Citizens’ attack, and could look to leave in search of regular playing time.

When speaking with Sky Sports, former City player Danny Mills discussed the possible destinations that Aguero could land in the summer, suggesting that Arsenal, among many other top Premier League and European clubs, would be interested in bringing Aguero to the club:
"“To lose Sergio Aguero would be absolutely disastrous. Chelsea will want him, Manchester United would take him, Arsenal would take him. Probably Madrid or Barca would sign him. PSG would certainly take him. He’s a fantastic striker who has a fantastic goal record, he’s brilliant.”"
Aguero is a phenomenal player, proven at the very top level. He would also command a rather hefty transfer fee and, at 29, would not offer a significant sell-on price through which clubs could recoup much of their investment. He is also not the typical Wenger signing. The French manager prefers to be frugal with his management, hesitant and considered with his investment.
A move for Aguero would not be like that whatsoever. He is an established player, a member of the footballing elite who many clubs would be vying for. Wenger tends to steer clear from such players, erring on the side of the cheap and cheerful rather than the extortionate and underwhelming.

It would truly be a blockbuster move, perhaps even an unattainable blockbuster that. However, if there is even a glimmer of hope in bringing Aguero to North London, then Wenger should jump at the opportunity.
