That was predictably terrible. Arsenal travelled to Germany to face Bayern Munich in the last 16 of the Champions League once again, and once again, they return home with their tails between their legs, facing serious questions regarding their mentality and the future of their manager. Here are the player ratings from the 5-1 demolition.

7.5. For a goalkeeper who conceded five goals, David Ospina actually had an excellent game. Wasn’t at fault for any of the goals whatsoever and actually ended up keeping the score, making good saves from Arjen Robben, Thiago Alcantara and Javi Martinez.. GK. Arsenal FC. DAVID OSPINA

Kept Douglas Costa quiet for much of the game and defended well but was far from being the solution for the defensive deficiencies in the second half.. DEF. Arsenal. HECTOR BELLERIN. 6.0

5.0. Was excellent in the first half alongside Laurent Koscielny. Koscielny then goes off and anarchy ensues. Poor organisation, poor communication. Switched off allowing Lewandowski to get the jump on him for the crucial third goal and didn’t track Thiago just a few minutes later.. DEF. Arsenal FC. SHKODRAN MUSTAFI

6.5. His influence was noticed most when he went off just after half-time. His teammates looked lost without him, conceding three goals in just 10 minutes. Let’s hope his injury is not too serious, otherwise defensive frailties could persist for some time.. DEF. Arsenal FC. LAURENT KOSCIELNY

DEF. Arsenal FC. KIERAN GIBBS. 5.0. Was ran ragged by the terrific duo of Arjen Robben and Philip Lahm all night. Not rating him too harshly, though, as he had little help from midfield, especially from his winger.

Arsenal. FRANCIS COQUELIN. 3.5. Oh dear Francis Coquelin. What he was doing for the opening goal, allowing Robben inside on his left foot, I will never know. He was excellent for 18 months after his miraculous return but it might be time to finally buy a world-class enforcer.. MID

MID. Arsenal FC. GRANIT XHAKA. 4.5. Was slightly better than his midfield partner and didn’t dive in as rashly as he has so far this season. His distribution was not quite accurate at times and he was dominated for much of the game by Arturo Vidal, Thiago and Xabi Alonso.

5.5. Showed some effort defensively, keeping the attacking David Alaba quiet for much of the game and did show some glimpses of attacking production. His ball retention was not up to scratch, though.. MID. Arsenal FC. ALEX OXLADE-CHAMBERLAIN

Arsenal FC. ALEX IWOBI. 3.5. Terrible. Utterly terrible. I hate slating a young, talented player but his defensive awareness was awful, he gave the ball away far too often and created little to nothing before being hauled off.. MID

3.0. Did he even play? Ozil was one of the worst players on the pitch and, having been signed for £42 million, is expected to drive his team forward on the biggest stage. Didn’t offer any effort defensively and little ingenuity or creativity offensively. It may be best to part ways in the summer.. MID. Arsenal FC. MESUT OZIL

ALEXIS SANCHEZ. 7.5. MAN OF THE MATCH: Worked tirelessly and pressed relentlessly. Was the only offensive threat for much of the game, causing both Hummels and Martinez problems throughout. Scored the goal well after the botched penalty but was evidently frustrated by the closing stages.. FOR. Arsenal FC

GABRIEL PAULISTA. 5.0. Was thrust into a difficult situation but looked lost alongside Mustafi. Neither were able to stem the flow of the game and Gabriel, while decent, is nothing more than a good squad member and competent depth.. SUB. Arsenal FC

6.5. Worked hard tracking back on the right-hand side and did provide some pace in the late stages. Had very little of the ball to work from. Perhaps should have started instead of Iwobi.. SUB. Arsenal FC. THEO WALCOTT

There is no rating for Giroud as he spent little time on the pitch and was given little service throughout.
