Thierry Henry has heralded Monaco’s Kylian Mbappe. The Monaco forward has been compared to the Arsenal legend and is a wonderfully exciting young prospect.

The acquiring of young players is a tricky and turbulent task. Rarely does it run smoothly and often does it bring false hopes and surprising success. It is something that, throughout his Arsenal tenure, Arsene Wenger has prioritised, both in his coaching styles and in the transfer market.

A great example of such a tactic is Thierry Henry. The Juventus winger was signed as a fresh-faced 22-year old in 1999. Wenger changed his game from an inconsistent, pacy winger into a ruthless, cut-throat, and still pacy, striker.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

There is now rumour that Wenger is attempting to sign the man who has been labelled as ‘The Next Henry’. Reports claim that Arsenal are interested in Monaco forward Kylian Mbappe who possesses the modern-day blend of pace, power and precision that all attackers seemingly boast. Henry is also an admirer of Mbappe. Speaking with ESPN, Henry stated that Mbappe is extremely talented and has a bright and prosperous career ahead of him:

"“I’ve met Mbappe and he’s a nice lad with a good head on his shoulders. He is very respectful and quite quiet. But give him the ball and he talks and he isn’t very nice anymore! He is determined and never gives up. He is the talk of the town and has so much talent. He has skills, goals, assists. He can do what he wants with the ball.”"

The 18-year-old is certainly an enticing opportunity that Arsenal should look to pursue. In eight league starts for the French club, Mbappe has scored seven goals and assisted a further five, glistening in a wide position for the unexpected Ligue 1 leaders.

In terms of first team experience, this is his first full season at the senior level. That only enhances the excitement surrounding a potential signing. He is certainly raw and unpolished. But for him to have such success with such little experience shows the natural ability that he boasts.
