Kylian Mbappe has reportedly been priced at £51 million according to Le Parisien. If that is the case, he would still be worth it for Arsenal.

Arsene Wenger is notoriously hesitant in the transfer window. While the levels of finances at the club has often been uncertain, the many years in which Arsenal, under the guidance of Wenger, spurned the many chances to heavily invest have brought many to question Wenger’s willingness to spend and ambition to win.

However, in recent years, the ever-increasing TV money, combined with the influence of big spenders from across the globe, such as the Chinese Super League and the MLS, clubs have seen prices rocket to astronomical figures.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Just this summer, the usually hesitant Wenger splashed over £30 million on an unproven central midfielder and centre-half. That is wholly unheard of and is indicative of the rising prices. As such, when a potential fee is quoted for a player, especially a young player with the natural abilities to develop into a genuine star, the gasp that we all have at the size of it should be tempered by the market forces that have produced such ridiculous sounding figures.

The latest player to be at the centre of the transfer storm is Monaco forward Kylian Mbappe. Having burst onto the scene with a sensational opening season in the first team for the French league leaders, Mbappe has, at just 18, established himself as a hugely talented prospect, often likened to Thierry Henry with his speedy, direct style.

There have been rumours linking Arsenal with a move for Mbappe throughout the year and now, per Le Parisien, there is a fee that must be matched. The French publication claims that Mbappe is valued at £51 million. That is certainly an eye-watering figure and may be one that would deter many from buying him. But, his talent and his future make him worth the money.

Mbappe is a truly incredible talent. He boasts searing pace, has adept close control when driving forward at opposing defenders, is intelligent in his movement off the ball and is a ruthless finisher when in front of goal, as evidenced by a lethal shot into the roof of Manchester City’s net in their Champions League tie last Tuesday.

As transfers become more and more heightened and fees only increase, it is often difficult to reason a club ever spending £51 million on any player. However, Mbappe is a special talent, a one-in-a-generation player and, like it or not, Arsenal may be best served by stumping up the cash.
