Arsenal are being linked with a move to Lavyin Kurzawa. The Paris Saint-Germain defender could solve the Gunners’ growing left-back troubles.

The left-back position has been a great strength of the Arsenal squad for some time. When Arsene Wenger first arrived, it was the stalwart Nigel Winterburn, opposite of Lee Dixon, who marshalled the left flank with great grit and determination.

As Winterburn aged, the time of Ashley Cole began. The young defender was lightning quick with an excellent engine, capable of continued overlapping runs linking up with Robert Pires adeptly for many years. A controversial exit saw Gael Clichy promoted to the starting line-up and the Frenchman enjoyed similar success.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

When Clichy departed for Manchester City in 2011, it was hoped that Kieran Gibbs would replace him. But an onslaught of injuries and inconsistent form scuppered his early development and Wenger has been forced to find a more reliable option in Nacho Monreal. This season, though, neither have particularly impressed and it is now an area of the squad that is in need of some investment in the summer.

As such, there have been many names linked with a possible move to the Emirates. Ricardo Rodriguez has been mused with a transfer, with the Gunners apparently interested last summer. There have been more reports in recent weeks again linking the Swiss international with a move and he is certainly an option that Wenger may look to explore.

Another name that has been circulated in recent weeks is Lavyin Kurzawa. The Paris Saint-Germain defender has established himself as a developing force for the French club, showcasing excellent athleticism, the athleticism necessary to excel in Wenger’s demanding system, and astute defensive capabilities.

Moreover, he has an excellent delivery when in the final third, scoring twice and assisting twice in 14 league games. Add to this that he is only 24 years of age with limited first team experience, and it is clear to see an upwards trajectory for his career.
