Arsenal: Arsene Wenger Turning Down “£30 Million” Answers Ian Wright
Per the Telegraph, Arsene Wenger has rejected a £30 million offer from the Chinese Super League, answering Ian Wright’s doubts regarding the Arsenal manager.
There are many questions surrounding Arsene Wenger and his future. After over two decades at the club, leading Arsenal to great success and great frustrations, recent years have been dominated by the latter and, subsequently, criticism has abounded.

Many among the fanbase and the media have suggested that, with his contract set to expire at the end of the season – although there is an offer on the table there is still little known about whether Wenger will accept the offer and for how long it will be available to him – this could, and perhaps should, be the last season of the 21-year marriage.

Even former players are beginning to criticise Wenger’s recent management decisions, a group of people who have tended to be the staunchest of defenders for their old manager. The latest Wenger star to question his future is Ian Wright. Speaking with BT Sport, the former Gunners’ record goalscorer questioned whether Wenger was still putting the club before his own wants and desires, stating:
"“Is he putting himself before the club there? In respect of saying ‘I have got more to offer’. If he does have more to offer then I want him to be there at Arsenal, if that’s the case. Sign the players which will take you to the level you need to be. Whatever we say about the players they under-perform at this stage literally every single time, there is something wrong.”"
I have criticised Wright for such comments, showing that, if there is any ideal that Wenger stands by unwaveringly, it is his eagerness to do what he believes is best for the club. It has been a characteristic throughout his tenure in North London and, while one may find fault in the decisions made, to question the motives behind the decision is shortsighted and unacceptable.
Wenger has, if reports from the Telegraph are to be believed, proven his steadfastness valid. The reports claim that Wenger has been the subject of a £30 million contract offer from a club from the Chinese Super League, a bid that he has rejected in favour of continuing as Arsenal manager as he attempts to stem the ever-growing downward tide.

That is a prime example of how Wenger puts the club first. Throughout his time, he has been courted by many giants in world football, namely Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and the French national team, and yet he, in a thoroughly loyal decision, has chosen to stay in North London. That is lessening his own desires and prioritising the club, no matter what Ian Wright may claim.
