Arsenal still looks to be the endgoal for Joel Campbell, which is good news if Allegri comes to town because he can be the new Victor Moses.

Arsenal’s usage of Joel Campbell has long been a point of frustration for me. The rambunctious Costa Rican had everything you could possibly need to be a top-tier option, yet for whatever reason, Arsene Wenger never saw it.

A new manager, therefore, would probably float Campbell’s boat. The problem is where he would play.

Well, I may have an idea, as the title suggests.

Chelsea have made themselves look like geniuses with Victor Moses. The Nigerian was sent on loan after loan, like so many Chelsea prospects before (and after) him, but here he has arrived at an Antonio Conte system that has accentuated his each and every strength.

Arsenal, if Massimiliano Allegri does come to town and seek to implement a 3-5-2, have a similar crapshoot available to them in the form of Joel Campbell.

The Costa Rican has not been given a fair chance under Wenger, has fallen to loan after loan and could actually be a feasible wing back solution. He has the work rate, as he is a tireless competitor. He has the tenacity. The guy was a fiend winning the ball back for the Gunners last season. And he absolutely has the offensive capabilities.

Naturally, though, there are some questions. He does not have the best right foot, so his ability to cut in would be dependent on his development of that weaker side. But his strong left foot would actually place him pretty well as an option opposite Hector Bellerin. It would be his dominant foot sending in crosses, after all.

The second concern is stamina. While he is a tireless worker, he was often subbed off early by Wenger and looked absolutely exhausted coming off. That might just be a byproduct of him working so hard and Wenger never being keen on the Costa Rican, but he would be expected to go full matches for Allegri.

Again though, that is something that can be learned, if he doesn’t have it already.

Moses didn’t seem like a stalwart option for Chelsea when they started the season, but he has hit it off incredibly well.

There would be a ton of naysayers for what I have just proposed. I’m not even sold on it yet. But in a footballing world that desperately needs options, I see Joel Campbell as an incredibly solid option and one that could truly come to blossom. Plus, it would make Allegri look like a genius, and everybody wins if that happens.
