Arsenal are now banking on Massimiliano Allegri saving the club, and with his first ever Gunner’s transfer link, he is showing he already understands what’s to come.

Arsenal has a lot of problems that need diagnosing this summer and it starts at the top. It’s nearly unanimous across the fan base that Arsene Wenger‘s time has passed and it’s time to find a replacement.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock at the bottom of a well in the middle of the desert, you know who is being touted as the next manager of Arsenal – Massimiliano Allegri.

The current Juventus boss has been nothing but impressive in his tenure with the Turin side since taking over for Antonio Conte and we want to see what kind of changes he can bring to our Arsenal.

And the rumors are starting already.  The first player to be linked to come over to Arsenal along with Allegri is Lazio’s midfield golem Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

And immediately we wonder if there could be a better first arrival. The Serbian is a massive midfield presence, standing almost identically in size to the last great holding midfielder the Gunners had. And of course, I am speaking of Patrick Vieira.

It’s hard to not think of when Wenger brought Patrick Vieira over with him as we wonder if Milinkovic might be a recurrence of a happier time.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Naturally, such a comparison is dicey from the start, just ask Granit Xhaka, but Milinkovic isn’t like Granit Xhaka in his skill set. And I don’t say that as a slight on Xhaka. I say that excitedly in regards to just how good the Serb could be.

Obviously an aerial master, Milinkovic is also an offensive force, along with his inherent strength. He’s started 22 matches, scored four and assisted on another four. He still has some fine-tunning needed in terms of passing, but anyone that stands as tall and strong as he does has all the potential in the world. All they need is the right system to emphasize those strengths.

Pairing him with Xhaka wouldn’t be the worst idea ever. Milinkovic isn’t the fastest player in the world, but neither is Santi Cazorla and it worked out okay. Plus, it would provide added defensive and set-piece cover.

Having an attack-minded midfielder with the size of Milinkovic is like having a winger the size of Ivan Perisic. It’s an injection of much needed size at a position where you wouldn’t normally find it.

Aside from all the other inherent benefits here, think of how amazing set pieces would be with Olivier Giroud, Perisic and Milinkovic all in the box.
