Arsenal’s Champions League season has not gone according to plan yet again. Still here is how to watch their implausible home leg against Bayern Munich.

There was so much optimism for Arsenal going into their first leg against Bayern Munich. There was real belief that they could make the return leg a manageable affair. And for awhile there, everything seemed to work.

When Alexis took his failed penalty and turned it into a goal, drawing the scores level, the optimism exploded (in a good way). The commentators were murmuring that this belief could be real. That away goal was huge.

Then Laurent Koscielny got hurt and then four more goals happened and all of a sudden, the Gunners were the laughing stock of the Champions League yet again.

Oh, how quickly things change.

There are still plenty of reasons to watch this match. Chances are, Arsenal will look magnificent. They always tend to when there is nothing on the line. They could very well put up a comprehensive victory over the German giants and make it look pretty convincing.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Even if it doesn’t mean much in the competition itself, seeing this club return to form, which seems like even more of an impossible task than ever before, would be such a blessing. And, seeing as how Wenger said that he would be sending out a very similar team, it could be a great chance for some of these every day players to get back in form as well.

Bayern Munich are fresh off of more wins. They may have scrounged up a 1-1 draw immediately following the Champions League match against the Gunners, but since then, they have been on point, scoring goals out the wazoo.

This never bodes well for a team that can’t seem to figure out why they can’t defend, and that is where Wenger’s squad is at right now. Aside from the match against Sutton United, which looked strained in and of itself, there has been very little defense to speak of as they have collapsed to superior opposition.

Liverpool, Chelsea and Bayern Munich combined to score eleven goals on the Gunners. Hardly something to be proud of.

We will also have to keep an eye on Alexis, as no one wants to admit that anything is wrong, even when something is obviously wrong.
