Arsenal: Alexis Sanchez Offering The Chance Of A Lifetime
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal superstar Alexis Sanchez is now then victim of some serious name calling and it’s getting ridiculous. He is being nothing but reasonable in the process.
Arsenal are facing an eventful summer. Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez, Arsene Wenger and a handful of other players all face huge decisions regarding their futures. And it all figures to come to a conclusion this summer.

Of course, Alexis Sanchez is stealing the spotlight with his seemingly fervent desire to stay but the boards ridiculously staunch opposition to paying him what he deserves.
Sure, no one is bigger than the club. No one will challenge that point. But there is a such thing as paying a guy what he is worth. And if Eden Hazard, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Sergio Aguero can all make £200,000 or more, then why can’t a player who does more for his team than any of those three do for theirs?
Anyway, some people don’t like it. One scarcely known pundit called Alexis a selfish pig, while others are saying that he isn’t worth it. All because of his attitude when the Gunners were getting trounced.
There is a lot to address there, so let’s talk about all of the people telling him to leave. Why? Because he wants to be paid a reasonable amount? If he was asking for Paul Pogba like money, then sure, let’s drop him, he isn’t worth that. But he only wants to be paid what all the other top players are paid. That isn’t a ridiculous request. It is perfectly understandable.
Here is a bonafide superstar that buys into the Arsenal vision, loves the club and wants to help make it successful. He is showing faith in the club. But faith goes both ways. Alexis has kept the faith in the club, but they have not always reciprocated, and now he is giving them the chance to with his supposed contract demands of £250,000. That’s a lot of money.

But is it selfish? No way. Who else are they going to give that money to? Does Theo Walcott need another raise? Alexis is the most important player on this club and he knows it. So pay him. This isn’t the time to get ideological. It’s the time to build a team capable of winning for once and Alexis is one of the few guys out there that has the desire to do so.
Alexis has every reason to want to leave. The fact that he is even giving the Gunners a chance to lock him down for the longhaul, something we have been begging for for months, is a courtesy. He doesn’t have to do that. Clearly the man wants to stay.
As far as his attitude, I’m starting to take a new perspective on it. Sure, it’s a bad look, for Alexis to be laughing and smirking on the sidelines while his team is being destroyed. But what the hell else is he supposed to do? Mope around like everyone else and never do anything about it?
This seems like such a simple solution. You have this world class player who can make a difference and he wants to stay at the club despite how it crumbles and still there are people stubbornly claiming that no one is bigger than the club. Alexis isn’t saying he’s bigger than the club! He just wants to be shown the faith that other superstars are shown by their clubs.
