Arsenal: 5 Players That May Side With Alexis Sanchez Over Arsene Wenger
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal is on the brink of a civil war, and while most will side with Arsene Wenger, here are five that may side with the Chilean superstar, Alexis Sanchez.
Arsenal’s situation is getting murky. Recent reports are indicating that their might be a bit of chasm forming between the pro-Arsene Wenger players in the clubhouse and Alexis Sanchez. Wenger also spoke out about such a situation, saying that unity was of the utmost importance at a time like this.
It’s hard to disagree with that. But it’s also hard to disagree with the side that Alexis is likely forming. What it seems like the Chilean is fighting for is progress. He isn’t happy with stagnation and he wants to see the club improve.
That being said, the majority of the players are obviously going to side with Arsene Wenger. He has kept infinite faith in some of these guys and has given them unlimited free passes and second chances.
Obviously guys like Francis Coquelin and Theo Walcott, who depend on Wenger for consistent chances, would not want to see him off, but even higher profile players like Mesut Ozil and Hector Bellerin have noted that they stand with Wenger.
Still, it’s feasible that some players may see it from Alexis’s perspective. And while we have no indication that teams are actually forming within the clubhouse, we have composed a list of five players who may think that Alexis is on to something. Naturally, this list wasn’t easy, given how many players owe Wenger so much. But the few that we have would have something to gain from big time changes.
We start with No. 5.
5. Granit Xhaka
Granit Xhaka has a lot to thank Wenger for, no doubt. It was Le Prof that kept tabs on Xhaka and kept making him promise after promise about how wonderful life at Arsenal was going to be. It’s safe to say that Xhaka would not be here without Wenger.
Even still, Wenger has been very outspoken about Xhaka’s disciplinary problems and his inability to tackle and Xhaka has not exactly been receptive to this talk. He has stood strong, saying he will not change who he is.
Xhaka wouldn’t want Wenger gone over something as simple as that, but in the name of progress, it’s conceivable that he could want to see another “head of the household” at the Emirates.
On to No. 4.
