Arsenal’s internal rift may continue to get worse and Alexis Sanchez may well head for the exit, but the Chilean is fighting a brave fight at the club.

You hate to hear reports coming out that Alexis Sanchez is becoming a bit of an outcast in the Arsenal locker room. He has been such a blessing to the club in his time here and he has given absolutely everything he has to take them to new heights.

What this comes down to isn’t “Wenger In” or “Wenger Out”. Alexis isn’t walking around with a sign that says “Wexit” on it. I don’t think he is holding out for Le Prof to vacate North London.

All it comes down to is a desire to see improvement. As mentioned Alexis has already given this club so much and he will continue to for as long as he is here, which, hopefully, extends beyond this summer. But from his point of view, he is giving all that he can and improving and the team is staying the same.

There aren’t enough hungry or devoted players on this team. At least not on Alexis’s level. And that’s all he wants. If he wanted Wenger gone, he wouldn’t have given his own contract extension to the club and given them a chance to keep him.

What we might actually have here is that Alexis loves the club so much that he is right there with us supporters, who are frustrated at seeing our club seemingly beat their heads against a wall and never improve.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

This is a brave fight to fight within a club that is so embedded in tradition. And it’s more than likely a fight that Alexis will lose; a fight that will push him out of the exit. But he has become sort of like a beacon of hope. If his team mates really are turning on him, and I’m sure they have their reasons, but that is a crying shame.

Sure, Alexis has had a poor attitude at times, but at the end of the day he is quick to state his love for the club. And that poor attitude is born from frustration at seeing the Gunners inexplicably unable to make any serious headway.

All he wants is for this team to succeed and that isn’t happening. So he is standing up for progress, for changes and for a new hope. That can include Wenger. But it has to include a much different supporting cast than what we have.

Again though, that’s the problem. Wenger has been here for two decades, the board has made it known that they won’t comply to the market for wages. What we have here is Alexis Sanchez standing there like Braveheart and never having a real chance of enacting major change.
