Arsenal: Mesut Ozil Pulling The Old Switcheroo On His Future
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal looked to be the perfect home for Mesut Ozil, but he has hit some rough patches. But is he in it for more than the manager at last?
Mesut Ozil’s upcoming autobiography makes some pretty interesting revelations, particularly pertaining to his move to Arsenal from Los Galacticos. It reveals that he called Arsene Wenger, having had Le Prof’s number in his phone for a rainy day, and propelled the move.

Chalk up another player who came to the club almost entirely because of Arsene Wenger and the experience of learning under his tutelage. And Ozil has continuously admitted that Wenger was one of the main reasons why he decided to come to Arsenal.
So naturally, with the rumored upcoming exodus, we want to know who is going to hit the door with Wenger and who is actually in it for the club. And unfortunately, initial reports weren’t that promising, as both Mesut Ozil and Hector Bellerin hinted that their fate was tied to Arsene Wenger’s future with the club.
However, now the German maestro has come out to set the record straight. He is fairly confident that he doesn’t need Wenger to make his career in North London work and he has even taken it a step farther by refuting the claims and asserting that the “trainer” isn’t the only reason he is here.
“I’ve always said I feel happy at Arsenal: the club, the fans, the city – it’s all here. Arsene Wenger was one of the main reasons why I came to Arsenal but it would be wrong to say that my future depends only on the trainer,” he said, as quoted by the Sun.

This came at a pretty good time. Supporters out there were up in arms that some of their players seemed to be more in it for the “trainer” than for the club itself. Ozil was the chief culprit. After this statement in January, there were major questions. Have a gander:
“The club knows that I am here most of all because of Arsène Wenger. He is the one who signed me and he is the one whose trust I have. The club also knows that I want to be clear what the manager is going to [in the future],” he said, as quoted by the Guardian.
It sounded like he was going to make his decision based on what happened with Wenger. Meaning either he really wanted him to stay or he slyly wanted him to leave.
Either way, now he has done a full switcheroo and stated the exact opposite at a most convenient time.

On the one hand, I don’t think we can doubt his love for the club. He points it out all the time. I am wary, however, of the sudden switch.
