Arsenal has had their fair share of losing out on “dedicated” “team” players, but Hector Bellerin promised to be different. So let’s hope that he actually is.

I don’t need to remind anyone about the history that Arsenal had of losing key players. Cesc Fabregas and Robin van Persie both seemed like Gunners through and through, yet it was Fabregas that ended up at hated Chelsea and the Flying Dutchman that ended up at Manchester United.

You’re hardly a Gunner if you play for United or Chelsea.

We also lost out on our regular fullback duo when Bacary Sagna and Gael Clichy both uprooted and moved to Manchester City. Hardly as impacting as the two attacking players, two former captains, no less, it was still a big deal.

That flow promised to stop when the Emirates was paid off and financial flexibility was added to the Gunners arsenal of tools. Add to that the new, dedicated players that seemed indebted to the Arsenal cause and we were feeling pretty good. No one seemed ready to jump to a near rival.

Hector Bellerin doesn’t seem ready to jump to a near rival either. But the rumors are starting to creep in that Barcelona may not be as impossible as he led us to believe. It wasn’t all that long ago that he came out and spoke at length about how Cesc Fabregas was an inspiration but how he would not do a similar move as his countryman did.

Also known as, he wouldn’t leave the Emirates for a new career at Camp Nou.

The rumors are pretty convincing though, and they fit hand in hand with the idea that Bellerin would leave if Wenger left first. And while Bellerin has never exactly said that, he hasn’t denied it just yet either, and he has always been good about staying on top of these rumors.

We have no cause for anything beyond wariness, as nothing has come to pass. But let it be known that should Bellerin enact this switch, a switch that he promised not to pursue, it would be a brand new kind of treachery. The kind where you go back on exactly what you said wouldn’t happen.

Again, don’t let me blow this out of proportion. Nothing has happened and Bellerin has not said anything. It’s just a bit worrying given the incoming changes that figure to make their way into our club in the near future.
