Arsenal Transfer Rumors: Andre Silva One Hell Of A Leap
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal are naturally out there looking for Alexis Sanchez replacements, but to heap that on Portuguese starlet Andre Silva is a massive leap.
Arsenal has a lot of candidates being linked to them to take over for Alexis Sanchez, should the Chilean decide to depart. And while I have gone to lengths dismissing handfuls of them as not applicable replacements, some have stood out as legitimate candidates.

Two of them come from Napoli, as Dries Mertens and Lorenzo Insigne are both plausible spot-replacements for the Chilean.
Another rumor that is hanging around is the link to Andre Silva, the FC Porto striker. If anything, the rumors are picking up steam, as the new report indicates that the Portuguese 21 year old will be purchased with the money used from selling Alexis Sanchez, which could reach upwards of £52m.
That’s a lot of money, and it’s a massive investment not just monetarily, but in terms of the level of impact we would be expecting out of this young man.
Which is why I call it one hell of a leap.
I have always loved the idea of Silva coming to Arsenal. We can never have too many striker options for the future, especially after having four years of essentially just one striker. But tossing around the idea that he is worth that much money and is capable of filling in for Alexis is a dangerous precedent and it sets the bar way too high.

Silva does have himself an impressive and ever-improving resume. Just Alexandre Lacazette (just four years sooner), Silva is proving that his current division isn’t enough for him. He needs to make that next step if he is going to advance his career.
This year he already has 19 goals and six assists in 2600 minutes of play. Meaning that he is contributing to a goal roughly every 100 minutes. That is quite the tally, especially given the great quantity with which he is scoring them. It’s not like he four goals and four assists in 900 minutes. He is piling them up.
There is a chance that Silva could run away with his potential and make us forget about Alexis Sanchez. He does have the technical versatility to play multiple attacking positions. And I wouldn’t be surprised if in the long run he amounts to exactly what he is leading us to believe he will.

But the one for one swap, Alexis for Silva, that is daring, bold and actually kind of unnecessary. If we have to lose Lucas though, then Silva is definitely a project worth getting excited for.
