Arsenal: Excitement The Least Of Massimiliano Allegri’s Appeal
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal could-be future manager Massimiliano Allegri has been backed by his mentor to make the Gunners “exciting”, but that should be the least of the appeal.
Everyone is talking about Massimiliano Allegri coming to Arsenal. It is damned exciting and something that seems to be unanimously agreed upon – it will move the club forward, plain and simple. Or at least that is the idea.

Whatever Italian magic Antonio Conte has cast over Chelsea, Allegri can do the same for the Gunners. It is that simple.
And now, even Allegri’s mentor Giovanni Galeone is of the same mind.
“[Arsenal are] a historic club. It will depend on Wenger’s decision. Massimiliano could build an exciting, fun team keeping with tradition there,” Galeone said, as quoted by the Evening Standard. “Arsenal have players that could adapt to his style. It could be [a good fit].”
Exciting it would be, but honestly, the excitement is just a byproduct of the other massive things that Allegri would bring.
First and foremost, he would bring a spark. This Gunners team is renowned for getting down on themselves and wallowing in their own pity. It’s gross. It makes sparkplugs like Alexis Sanchez look like the bad guys when they spout off at their sulking team mates.
Allegri is a live wire. He has no qualms with getting in a star players face when they have erred and shouting to kingdom come. And he might even be 2-0 up when he decides to do it.

That simply hasn’t been a part of the chill Arsenal culture. It’s like a library at times.
Along the same lines, Allegri would bring accountability. Also known as consequences, the one thing I keep harping on the most about. Mainly because it is another thing these Gunners seem to be devoid of.
Allegri would bring a proven history of carrying on success and not being satisfied with where they are. Arsenal is frequently accused of being complacent. Allegri is simply not that. It is just another way that the Allegri mindset would revolutionize the way that the Gunners think.
He would bring a fresh mind and an openness to changes. It’s taken this long, plus one Mesut Ozil injury, to finally try a 4-3-3. And go figure, it worked, as it gave defenses something else to think about.
Allegri would be open to such changes, as he has proven at Juventus.

So yes, that is all pretty exciting. But in the grand scheme, the excitement is not the major draw. All of these new standards are.
