After Arsenal’s loss to West Brom, Arsene Wenger has revealed that he has made his decision regarding his future. Surely, it is that he will leave.

It was a damning loss on Saturday. Five points behind the top four, after just three wins in their last eight games, two of which were against non-league opposition, Arsenal took a trip to the Hawthorns Stadium to face West Brom in desperate need of a win.

That, though, was not what they found. Rather, they encountered a well-drilled, well-organised, dogged opponent who were willing to unsettle their possession-based style and exploit one key weakness: defending from set pieces.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

It was a desperately poor performance from Arsene Wenger’s side, one that perhaps suggests that his time could well be coming to an end. A sad  state for many sections of the fanbase. His future has been a question hanging over the club for some time, with his contract set to expire at the end of the season. Wenger has previously professed that he does not yet know whether he will stay or go. However, after Saturday’s loss, he has now revealed that he does indeed know, but he is not willing to publicly declare his decision as of now:

"“I know what I will do. You will soon know. Today I do not necessarily worry about that. We are in a unique bad patch we never had in 20 years. We lose game after game at the moment and that for me is much more important than my future. I think we have a hell of a task to fight back but we need to regroup and focus on the games coming up because we have many big games.”"

They are very intriguing comments indeed. Wenger is rarely so detailed about his own decision making, preferring to remain private regarding the details of his and the club’s workings. However, in this instance, he has acted rather strangely and it suggests to me that there is only one decision that could have been made.

It was a desperately poor performance from his team on Saturday; one of very many in quick succession. Choosing to state that he has made his decision after such an abject display is a telling sign. It would be difficult to defend himself after the recent struggles of the team.

While I am still a member of the minority that wants Wenger to stay, as time passes it is becoming increasingly likely that this will indeed be his last season in North London.
