Arsenal: Is Granit Xhaka An Idiot?
Granit Xhaka has stated that Arsenal are on the same level as Bayern Munich and that they will win the league title soon. Is he an idiot?
It has been a depressing few months for Arsenal and their many fans. Like in recent years, the latter half of their seasons have brought about little more than despair and disappointment: humiliation in Europe; the slow death of the weekly domestic calendar.

This year has been no exception to history. While Arsene Wenger has guided his side to the semi-finals of the FA Cup, primarily thanks to a kind draw that has seen them face non-league opposition in half of their ties thus far, in the fifth round and quarter-finals, hopes of a Premier League title have been dashed, their top four place is in jeopardy and Bayern Munich waltzed past them in a 10-2 aggregate win.

Speaking of the seemingly unstoppable Germans, it was them that Ivan Gazidis highlighted as the target for the club thanks to the move to the Emirates, it has been them that have piled on the pain most severely in recent years, and it is now them that Granit Xhaka rather ambitiously decides to favourably compare his current side to.
When asked about the state of the Gunners, about their prospects moving forward and the state of the squad, Xhaka declared:
"“The results against Bayern Munich were very bad but we are not that far off them and in my view they are on the same level as Arsenal. I know that is a brave statement to make, but that’s how I feel. The defeats particularly annoy me because I have good memories of my previous games against Bayern. Arsenal is an outstanding club in an amazing city. The only thing that has been missing is a League title. But I believe that will change soon.”"
Now, there have been many arguments regarding the qualities of Xhaka this season. He has, at least for his price tag, been a disappointment. Those that defend him, though, point to his athletic and technical traits that he has displayed throughout his first season in the Premier League. This debate, however, has nothing to do with his abilities and everything to do with his stupidity.

It is utterly ridiculous to suggest that Arsenal are ‘on the same level’ as Bayern Munich. It is equally worrying to believe that this naive thinking may have seeped through the squad. Granit Xhaka is an idiot for thinking this. Let’s hope that no one else agrees with him.
