Arsenal: ‘Arrogant’ Arsene Wenger Is Nothing That Paul Merson Claims Him To Be
Paul Meson has claimed that Arsene Wenger is too arrogant for is own good. However, such comments undermine his admiration and respect for Arsenal.
The future of Arsenal football club is worryingly resting on the decision of one man. Unlike almost all other sporting organisations around the world, Arsenal are wholly dependent on the decisions, the opinions, the premonitions of just one man: Arsene Wenger.

That is a question that could well be answered earlier than many may have thought. Wenger’s contract expires at the end of the season and, although he says that he has made a decision regarding whether he will stay or go, we are still in the dark as to what decision he has made. Former Gooner Paul Merson has stated that Wenger is ‘too arrogant for his own good’ because he has been unwilling to reveal what decision he has made:
"“Arsene Wenger is becoming too arrogant for his own good. Arsenal is a club with so many loyal supporters and he’s just doing what he wants and keeping everybody in the dark about his future. There’s a real arrogance about that. It feels like he is just mugging everybody off. And then he says talks are on hold with Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil because it might distract the team. What about his own future? It’s a bit hypocritical.”"
However, for Merson to suggest that Wenger is ‘doing what he wants’ rather than what he believes his best for the club simply belies history. Whether you are a supporter of Wenger and his management or not, one thing that cannot be doubted is that he always makes decisions with the intentions of the club in mind.
Wenger is Arsenal obsessed. He makes every decision with the club at the heart of it. Merson is attempting to portray the recent issues that the team are having as a result of Wenger’s character.

But that is a shortsighted assessment. Criticise his management. Criticise his approach. Criticise his decisions. But it is wholly unfair to criticise his character.
