Arsenal’s fate used to be tied to Jack Wilshere, but that link may be breaking. Still, the Englishman’s future shouldn’t be that unclear.

Arsenal could be a whole new machine if guys like Abou Diaby and Jack Wilshere could have stayed healthy and recognized their full potential. These two guys have all the talent to be that all-purpose midfielder combo that Arsene Wenger has tried to finagle in recent years.

With Diaby gone and Wilshere’s future clouded, that ideal future obviously never happened, but a piece of it can still work.

There is far too much talk about Wilshere’s future outside of Arsenal. About how he should go to Bournemouth for good or how he should go to Italy to avoid the physicality of the Premier League. There is comparatively far less about how he just might want to give the Gunners one last shot.

Am I the only one thinking that it is without a doubt in everyone’s best interest for Wilshere to come back home for one more go before he decides to take his talents elsewhere?

No matter how much time the Englishman misses, whenever he plays, it’s clear he belongs. He has the capabilities to change a game, something that the Gunners absolutely lack. Only Alexis Sanchez and perhaps Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have displayed the capabilities of single-handedly turning the tide of a game and, given the right circumstances, Wilshere could grow into that role.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

He is still only 25 years old and has enjoyed a streak of good health at Bournemouth. Only recently has he ran into a fit of trouble, but even with that recent injury, it didn’t last long. He’s back in the running and has to fight his way back into the Cherry’s XI.

Arsenal will have openings come this summer. Santi Cazorla is out, Francis Coquelin obsolete, Aaron Ramsey an enigma and the Ox always being pushed out wide. Plus, if Wenger sticks with a 4-3-3, then Wilshere will be even better.

If nothing else, even if you are of the school of thought that thinks that Wilshere is long past any usefulness, one last chance with the club that raised him is going to be a motivating factor for him and a chance for him to give it one last go in order to make a career out of it in North London.

This isn’t a case of asking for favors from Wenger. Wilshere has earned the chance to make it happen. At least one last time.
